“There appears to be an inside vent that comes with a solid cover. Is this supposed to come off?”

• Hi Jen - We hope you're enjoying your new microwave and the smudge-proof Slate finish. Thanks for choosing GE. The cardboard cover on the right top or side wall of the microwave interior is there by design. The cardboard (mica) covers the waveguide system that feeds microwave energy into the cavity and should not be removed. The microwave should not be used for any function if this cardboard cover is not in place. If removed, it would require service to replace. Follow the instructions in the owner's manual for cleaning the interior of the oven. The same instructions apply to the cover.
