The frost evaporates. There is a higher chance of freezer burn over time if the items you are storing are not sealed well since their contents could also suffer evaporation. I find the trade worth it since a regular freezer can accumulate a lot of frost over time in a humid climate and then you have to move the contents and defrost it. That's a big pain.
