Hello- We are very sorry to hear you are having an issue with the key. The lock is spring loaded so the key cannot be left in the lock. To lock or unlock, press the key in while turning. If you continue to have issues, please reach out to our GE Answer Center at 1-800-626-2000. Be sure to have your model and serial number of the freezer when requesting a replacement key. Thank you!
