if you read the manual it explains how the water is used to maximize the efficiency of the unit. there is a drain plug you can remove from the bottom of the unit to allow water to escape but this takes away from the efficiency

As warm moist (humid) air from the room passes over the cold indoor coil, water condenses out of the air. This water collects on the surface of the coil, runs down to the drip tray or directly to the base pan, and then flows to the rear of the unit. A slinger ring picks up the water from the base pan and throws it on the outdoor coil to help remove the heat. This can cause a sloshing sound. A pinging or sloshing sound may be heard as the fan blade moves through the water. These noises are considered normal. We're here if you have any other questions. Mike@GEA
