The door is able to open either way. I believe mine was “hinged” on right side. Yes, I store gallon size milk in door. I haven’t put ice trays in; I have been using a countertop ice maker.

I ended up reversing it with the supplied parts to better fit the space where the fridge ended up (which was quite the task). The bottom refrigerator door shelves can accommodate a gallon of milk as I have stored milk there a few times already, and there is definitely enough room for standard size ice cube trays in the freezer drawers.
