Hi Nancy - The shelves fit nearly flush with the rear wall so food items should not fall through. Also, our refrigerators continue to be manufactured with as quiet an operation as possible. We do not rate the sound level of our refrigerators or freezers, which means we are unable to provide a decibel level while they are running. We encourage you to check out Reviews.
