Depends on whether you buy American brands vs Samsung or LG.  The South Korean brands vent to the rear and that can be a problem given heat buildup that impacts their compressors and are prone to fail if no side of the fridge is open. Note their coolant is butane. I had a Samsung paid $2300 and it lasted 14 months with three repair visits. I gave  
up.
