  • Questioni currently have a ge profile that has had 4 service calls in the last 8 yrs. due to design issues, dual evap coils seems to be the issue, what configuration of evap coils does this unit have.

    Asked by frigfinder.

    • Answer Hi frigfinder - It's great to hear from you! However, we are sorry to hear of this unfortunate experience with your 8 yr. old Profile refrigerator and apologize for any inconvenience the 4 service calls have caused. Model GSS25IYNFS has a single evaporator and frost guard technology. This technology allows the refrigerator to only defrost as needed. It accounts for door openings and usage to determine when it is necessary to defrost and how long the defrost cycle needs to run. If the refrigerator is not being frequently used (ex. family on vacation), it will not defrost as often. • QuestionCan the fingerproof resistant stainless steel be cleaned with a mild window cleaner or should I use stainless steel cleaner? I find stainless steel cleaner to be oily and would think this would create fingerprints (vs a window cleaner). Thanks.

    Asked by ChrisH.

    • Answer Hi ChrisH - Thanks for choosing GE! Window cleaners are not recommended. Our fingerprint resistant stainless offers a clear coat that allows the shine of the stainless to show through. It is designed with durability in mind, and makes cleaning easy. Unlike traditional stainless, fingerprint resistant stainless does not require the use of special stainless cleaners. To clean, use a mild solution of soap and warm water with a clean, soft cloth or microfiber cloth. Wipe dry with a soft clean cloth or microfiber towel to avoid streaking or water spotting. To prevent scratching, do not use, stainless steel cleaners, soap-filled scouring pads, abrasive cleaners, bleach or any product containing chlorine bleach, abrasive cloths and paper towels, window sprays, ammonia, vinegar or acidic/vinegar-based cleaners, oven cleaners and alkaline cleaners. We're glad to have you in the family! Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue

  • QuestionWhat are the dimensions of this refrigerator?

    Asked by Dolo.

    • Answer WHAT!! Anyone who sees my answer also has access to the Best Buy website's excellent details on this refrigerator: GSS25IYNFS. Just scroll down to "Specifications" and voilà. However, as I thought about this query, I began to remember that there was one detail that was very important for me to clarify before I bought this refrigerator. I was in luck, the BB store I was shopping in had this model on the floor and I was able to measure for myself. ☺︎ ☺︎ ☺︎ The website's values for this refrigerator are: 69 ½" High x 35 ¾" Wide x 34 ¾" Deep. The website's values for a needed cut-out are: 70 ¼" High x 36" Wide x 24" Deep. (The dimensions for the cut -out need to be bigger to allow the air to circulate.) So yes, something is amiss with these values for the Depth. Excluding the thickness of the door, the case (alone) for MY refrigerator is 24" Deep. GE recommends that a space of 2" be provided behind the refrigerator for air circulation. A cut-out of 24" means that 2" of the refrigerator's side would be exposed. And this model's almost black, textured sides are very different from the silky smooth surface of the stainless steel doors. The doors "bow" a bit; the case does not. At the hinge, each door - including the gasket - is 3" thick. In mid front of the refrigerator, each door - including the gasket - is 4" thick. If the refrigerator door is opened 90 degrees, the distance front to back is 50". If the freezer door is opened 90 degrees, the distance front to back is 45 ¼". A Depth of 34 ¾" does not describe MY refrigerator. And thank goodness, since in my kitchen, I would not have been able to open the refrigerator door 90 degrees if that 34 ¾ " value was accurate. In summary, depending upon which criteria is needed: MY refrigerator is 27" or 28" Deep. Add those two additional inches for the air circulation, the distance from the front of the refrigerator to the wall behind the refrigerator becomes 29" or 30". AND, should one want to open the refrigerator door 90 degrees: 52" would be needed.
