• Hi there, SunmaidNana - Thanks so much for asking this question! The grates are smooth. All three grates have a combined weight of 12 lbs. The right and left grates weigh 4.8 lbs each and the center grate weighs 2.4 lbs. We hope this helps! -Mikayla
