A:AnswerHi Janet- The non-stick griddle included with the range is aluminum. To clean, wash with dish soap and hot water. If necessary, scrub with a non-abrasive plastic pad. Do not clean the griddle in the self-clean cycle or in the dishwasher. We also offer Optional Cast-Iron Reversible Grill/Griddle WB31X24998 (sold separately). This cast-iron grill/griddle should be seasoned before first use and after cleaning. Rinse with hot water and dry thoroughly, then prepare the surface with cooking spray or wipe with a thin layer of vegetable oil. Wipe any excess oil with a dry paper towel.
To clean food soils, use a stiff brush and hot water. Follow up by seasoning the griddle/grill.
Using soap is not recommended, and do not wash the reversible grill/griddle in the dishwasher. Cleaning instructions are also provided in the Owner's Manual: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-85220-2.pdf - Thanks for choosing GE! SUE@GEA
A:AnswerHi Mixdplate- Yes, optional CENTER CAST IRON GRATE JXGRATE1 will make for a continuous grate. A large cooking surface gives you extra room for pots and pans of all sizes and lets cookware move easily from burner to burner. Thanks for choosing GE! SUE@GEA
A:AnswerNope. You have to buy the grate. I wondered about the griddle also. But, have found I do use it often - reheating biscuits and quick breads, making grilled sandwiches, and even fried an egg!! The griddle is super easy to clean.
Also, the edges of the grate are not "even" with the rest of the cooktop...so no "sliding" between burners.
Good Luck. I find this is a really excellent range for the price.
A:AnswerHi Andi- Thanks for viewing GE! The oven is actually vented in the center of the backsplash area. This will cause that area of your cooktop to feel warm when in use. With this design, you should not be concerned with hot controls or melting knobs. You may want to pair with GE® 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave Oven JVM6175SKSS equipped with cooktop lighting and two-speed, 300-CFM venting system to remove smoke, steam and odors. Keep in touch! SUEatGEA

A:AnswerHello Chloe - Thank you for the excellent question. This is a common query we are asked. The fingerprint resistance is a clear coating added to the traditional stainless steel. This means there will not be a major difference in the finish, although a slight difference in the shine may be noticed in the right lighting. Please let us know if you have any more questions. - JB
A:AnswerHi Sophia - Thanks for your interest in GE! We are happy to address your concern regarding heat transfer. It is normal for a cooking surface (griddle, grates) to be warm, or even hot to the touch when cooking. This is especially true when baking or broiling for an extended period of time. On freestanding gas ranges, the oven is usually vented up through the backsplash and heat from the oven is directed downward toward the cooktop. Also, heat from surrounding burners can heat the griddle or optional grate so never place any items on the griddle when it is not in use. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue

A:AnswerHi Jaydoubleyou - Yes, sealed burner models have 4-5 individual spark igniters, one for each burner. When selecting to light any "one" burner on sealed units all 4-5 spark igniters will spark together. This is done intentionally to allow operation of 1 spark control module rather than 4-5, one for each burner. Thanks for choosing GE. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Enjoy! Sue
