It is actually 29.9" at the range top too. There is no lip or transition at the top to hide any gaps between the stove and the counter top.

The cooktop on our newer Slide-In Electric Ranges, including JS645DLWW, does not overlap the counter on the sides like past models. The cooktop is the width of the range. We suggest to view the Quick Specs document (illustration) at the following link: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=JS645EL_SL_R2_17.pdf - This new design allows you to easily install in a standard 30" free-standing range cutout. Play Video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/nfrt61zqeho?rel=0 - If you are interested in covering the small gap on the sides, we suggest Optional Trim Kit JXFILLR1BB (sold separately). Check out the Installation Instructions for details: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=31-11118_Trim%20Kit%20Instructions.pdf - You might want to pair with matching GE® 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave Oven JVM6175DKWW. Two-speed, 300-CFM venting system removes smoke, steam and odors. We hope you like out new design! Sue
