Mine empties into reservoir without a hose attachment normally. With hose attached, unit bypasses reservoir and empties through hose.

There is no switch to drain from the hose. Make sure you have a good connection where the hose attaches and there is a rubber washer properly installed in the end. If the connection is loose, gently tighten the connection with pliers. If the hose is pushed into a drain, make sure it is not pushed in too far. If the hose is touching water, it will not drain. Pull out the hose until the hose outlet is above the water line. Cut off any excess hose so that it is moving in a straight line to the drain. We also recommend cleaning the dehumidifier drain and hose: Unplug unit. Clean dehumidifier drain with a baby bottle brush or pipe cleaner. Clean drain hose with the same. Make sure drain hose is routed downward. If the drain line is mounted at a steep angle downward less material will accumulate in hose and drain. We hope this helps. - John@GEAppliances
