Mine did that...it was a real pain in the butt. it seems to unsnap off its "hinges" so you have to get it to snap back into those and then it will just close. Hope that helps. it really takes some pulling and almost feels like you are going to break something

Usually, the little side panel will flip up and can then be flipped down to close it. You can close it if you are not using a drain hose at the time. You can attempt to wiggle this side panel to see if this helps to close it. GE Appliances does not service dehumidifiers and there is no service part to replace this.
