Replacing the control panel took just a few minutes by the guy who came to do it. It was under warranty so I can't say how much a new one would cost.

If the control panel is not responding, make sure it is not locked. Press and hold the "0" pad for 3 seconds to lock or unlock the controls. If the controls are not locked, disconnect power at the circuit breaker for at least 30 seconds and then reconnect power and try again.
