“I have a ge profile microwave I put in 10 years ago. The microwave works fine but the paint is falling off inside exposing the metal. Is there anything I can do about this. Should I be concerned.”

Hi Klb- If the coating is actively flaking or paint is peeling anywhere inside the oven cavity we recommend to discontinue the use of the microwave and replace it. The microwave is not repairable. The cavity coating in GE Appliances microwave ovens is selected to be safely used as a food-contact surface and meets GE Appliances' and applicable government requirements for such use. No lead or other toxic materials are added to the cavity coating material used in GE Appliances microwave ovens.
