In all reality, EVERY device made has planned obsolescence. It can't be avoided no matter what manufacturer you buy from, just to make it clear that Google is not the only one that does this. Every smart device, even televisions, stop receiving updates. At least 3 years are guaranteed with the Pixel 4 but it may very well go beyond 3 years.
