I guess when Verizon goes to the IRS or the state Division of Revenue they file for the total cost of sale. So, in reality, you're paying the full amount but Verizon is providing you with easier ways to get the phone of your dreams in 24 payments of $34, but because you get a season discount, you pay around $10 in 24 months. If you're ever late or get your service switched over to someone else,Verizon will come to you for the entire cost of the phone. That's about normal.
