• You can activate the phone as soon as you purchase it, they will actually do it for you. But you will need to unlock the phone in order to switch carries. So you need to pay the phone in full or pay it off through T-Mobile, TMobile will be in charge of the rest of remaining balance. There may be a third-party way of unlocking the phone, but pricier.

• Yes, that won't be a problem. You will need to call to unlock your phone once you have paid the phone off.
