Yes, that's how I use mine. But it will be at risk to the battery being damaged if left in the heat or cold for too long so it's a hassle taking it out and putting it back on the dash every time you want to drive. I prefer the Hero5 Black for use as a dash camera because then you can remove the battery and leave the charging cable plugged into a live outlet to be able to use the camera whenever you want without worrying about the battery blowing up.
