• Hi JLS. Thank you for your question. No, the motor does not shut off is the blades are not spinning. To start the mower using levers, push and hold the start button, and while holding the start button, pull the side levers towards to handlebar, once the unit is started you can release the start button, and to stop the mower, release the levers.
