I think just providing different level of power. However my experience the 2hA battery is much reliable than 4hA battery. I have 4 2hA batteries and never have any problem. But I have one 4hA battery, it stopped recharge three month later, then I received a replacement from Greenworks. The second 4hA battery stopped recharge about one year later, now I received another replacement, it is hoped the third 4hA will work for a while.

I think Ah stands for amp hours, so the 4Ah lasts longer per charge than the 2Ah.

Ah is amp hours.  Think of it as how long the battery will run before needed recharge.  The 4 will last roughly twice as long as the 2.

On the greenworks the casing on both is the same size but the 2 weighs less because it has less cells so it is nice to use in the blower and trimmer that you have to lift verses the heavier one better in the mower because will last longer.
