Did not go for ice maker option. A few old fashioned ice trays do the job. And leave more room and is hassle free.

The icemaker kit used in this model is the same one we have offered for use in many of our refrigerators over the years and we have not been made aware of a broad manufacturing issue or malfunction of this icemaker.. The issue mentioned with ice cubes dropping outside the bucket could very well be associated with the installation. Our initial recommendation would be to review the instructions to ensure the icemaker was installed correctly. If that proves not to be the issue, the next step would be to call GE Appliances service at 1-800-432-2737 to have the refrigerator and icemaker checked.
