“What happens to the probe when not in use? Does it leave an opening in the unit? Is unit made of stainless and ceramic?”

• Thank you for your question. The vent hole in the lid remains open when probe not in use. The outside of this unit is stainless steel and will include a ceramic crock insert.

• Hello, no worries if you don't want or need to use the probe or you can change your mind and use it after you start cooking. The lid has (2) small vents to release steam and pressure already incorporated in the lid so the small opening for the probe won't make a differance. The probe is stainless and the sensor is sealed/encased in plastic.

• Mine slow cooker does not have probe.. Frankly I did not want a probe..
