I read a review for a Hamilton Beach can opener that said it cuts off the rim at the same time, and therefore you can't use the lid to drain and squeeze the liquid out of a can of tuna. Is this true for this model? null

No it’s not true I drain the water from a tuna can easily! It’s worse if you cut yourself with the sharp edges other can openers have

It does cut below the rim. Pros-You can use the lid to cover the can if you need to refrigerate the can. Cons-It doesn't do a great job of draining. I still drain the cans using the lid. I just have to be more careful. If you need to drain using the lid more then you need to open the can. This isn't for you.
