The built-in speakers widen up to a spacial stereo sound effect whenever the signal is really good. From the headphone jack (3.5mm plug needed) in this radio you could run an audio cable to a stereo or HiFi amplifier and produce living room sound. Best Buy and and others carry the needed audio cable.

It does have speakers that are permanently attached to the radio. you can attach other speakers to it though if you like. It was smaller than I thought it was but it is a nice radio.

This unit is a complete radio with small speakers. That is the reason for using it as a tuner for the external amplifier with good speaker and great sound.
