“Can you choose the input for the TV to start up with? I want to buy this for my dad, but he is afraid of technology, and just needs to use his Spectrum remote to do his basic channel changing, on-off and volume. He can't navigate Google TV options.”

To have the unit power on to the last used input you would need to follow these steps Settings > System > Power & Energy Power on behavior and you can select Home screen or Last input.
