“Sparklight came out. Everything is working ok. He suggested I install an ethernet cable connecting the extender and desktop. How do you do this? I know have to plug each one end of ethernet cable on the extender and the otther one on my desktop. What else”

You MUST have an Ethernet outlet somewhat near to your desktop (in same room). Once you plug the Ethernet cable from your Ethernet outlet into the back of your extender, theoretically you should be able to connect your desktop to the internet wirelessly.
