Yes, my HP 27MQ does have AUTO-sleep mode. When I shut down my HP Z420, the screen blacks out and the indicator light goes to amber. I am running Linux Mint 20.3 on my HP.

Had already followed the procedure from the user manual and selected 'On' but the 'return and save' is greyed out. Assumed the arrow implied 'save' but even after attempting to set it as 'On' multiple times, the only way to enter sleep mode with an amber light was via the timer menu and manually selecting 'Sleep Now'. Defective product - or - a model that doesn't actually have 'Auto-Sleep'?

Yes, it does. It sounds like it's just turned off. You can use the buttons on the back of the monitor to turn it on. The instructions are on page 16 of the manual at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06521177.pdf
