There is a window in the tray, so when it's close to full that's when you pull it out and dump in a garbage can or garbage bag. It is best to ask the manufacturer about adding a plastic bag - I can't guarantee a correct answer, but I don't think it's a good idea it could get caught and ruin the machine.

If you pull the tray out before it's completely full, you'll find it's easier to dump the shreds into a garbage can without spilling them. There isn't a way to put a plastic bag in the shredder without risking getting it caught up in the machinery.
