“What about cartridges that go bad? I typically go months without printing anything. Then when I need to print, no amount of cartridge cleaning will provide decent quality products with my HP printer and HP cartridges. I need to install new ink cartridges. I may print one to one hundred pages for a specific need over the next couple of days, then nothing again for four to six months. Sure enough, I need new cartridges the next time I try to print something (and another $60 - $80). Do these "smart" printers know when cartridges are going bad and order new cartridges so I don't have to quickly run to the store and purchase cartridges before I can print? Perhaps laserjet is a better choice for my irregular printing habits?”

Don't do it!! This program is good for some. Not good for me. Watch out for overages at 5c a page! Really? I have given HP a total of 260 dollars and received only 1 set of ink. When I saw the overages of almost 200 in one month I canceled the program and immediately my printer was disabled. HP shuts off the use of their Instant Ink cartridges when you are not enrolled in the program.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you only print occasionally, you should still print a test page or something similar every other week or so. This keeps the cartridges active and will prevent them from drying out.
