I don't know if this is the correct or proper answer but the printer has its own email address and is probably communicating with the "mother ship" at HP. :-)

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The printer and ink cartridge are smart and when you get down to 25-30% ink left, it let's hp know through the internet. So you're printer is hooked up to wifi and the printer sends the message directly to HP. (you have to register so HP knows who to send it to and to pay the monthly fee).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mine does it through the internet and I would assume they all do. It just recognizes the ink getting low and orders it. Sometimes it is really early but better to be prepared.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Good question. The printer orders the ink for you when the ink is low using your WiFi connection. The ink will then be shipped and reach your doorstep before you actually run out of ink. I hope this helps.
