The fact the HP doesn't know how their own monitors work is concerning.... This monitor, and practically any major brand monitor post 2012, supports using your mouse and keyboard as a hub. I can not attest to to your apple mouse and keyboard, but if you are currently using the USB hub on your monitor currently and it works, this will also work. The USB 3 port on this monitor powers the hub, and the other 3 ports can be used for peripherals. In my case, I have my mouse, keyboard, and wireless headphone adapter plugged into mine and works beautifully.
