No, just redeem it online through your PS Network. They will ask for the code on the back. It will check that it was purchased properly, then give you a code to use on whatever you need to purchase and download. Brilliant way that video games are going. No more cartridges or disks.

You will get a code on the back of the card...it is activated when they scan the bar code! :-)

The code is printed on the physical card. You have to scratch it off to view the code and pin.

You need the physical card to scratch off the sticker and enter the code into your PSN account.

In this case, you would need to select a local store where you can pick up the PSN card. Codes can be sent via e-mail, however, using either of the options I've recommended.
