Press the square microsoft button with 4 squares (third button in from the left on the bottom) along with the Shift key and the letter S -- all at the same time.

I don't understand why is everyone is having hard time with this function.

It's F12. (Just simply press F12)

No Function key is required.

You can then select how you want to snip the screenshots.

There are four options.

Rectangular, Free Style, Current Window, Full Screen.

Note* You have to choose the active window for Current Window option.
