It is CFC free, and does not use R12 (freon) for the gas. It is energy star rated as it only uses $25 a year in power to run. The freezer shelf itself gets to 0F when running, but since the compartment is open and not sealed, the air inside is only about 28F. You can freeze water but that's it. This design is required for the fridge to stay cold, but the freezer only really works as a chiller with these models. If you need an actual freezer that will keep foods at 0F, you might want to look into a small stand alone freezer unit.

I don't know about temps but it gets my drinks extremely cold, i don't even have to add ice
