“Can you set the refrigerator and freezer temperatures individually? I need something that will keep items in the freezer frozen without also freezing the items in the refrigerator. Seems pretty basic but it's surprising hard to find.”

No. The fridge and freezer are both set by the same setting. However, the freezer will freeze your items while the fridge will just keep them cold without freezing. There are 5 settings. I use setting 4 and it works great for both.
