Yes, the USB-C works with any MacBook at has USB-C connections. I used it to connect an older hard drive that didn't have a USB-C connection. It worked well. If you have an older MacBook that had USB-A connections, it will work from that end as well to connect to something with USB-C.

I would use the Macbook charger and cable because of the power supply being different. Use this for an iPad or newer iPhone.
