• Has to have at least 3 inches , according to the manual. I keep mine about 4 inches from the wall on all sides

• I have mine against the wall in the garage. I have a little space around the side so nothing is touching it because it is very warm/hot to the touch when it is initially cooling down after delivery/installation.
