The adapter is universal in that you can slide the voltage selector lever to any of 7 different positions to match the voltage you need for a particular product. Be VERY careful to choose the right voltage (which the product you are using it with will state, either on the old adapter, the product, or in the manual). For my DVD player, it is 9. Then you have a piece that holds 7 tips with holes of different sizes. You choose the one that fits the jack in your product and put it on the end of the power cord. It is easy, easy. But, again, be very sure to choose the correct voltage (between 3 and 12 V DC). Also, your device must have a positive polarity.
