“Can I control the volume of the headphone output with the remote? In other words, is the headphone output at a static level or can it be adjusted with the remote? Also, do the speakers auto-mute when headphones are plugged in?”

I am not sure about the tv, have not tried this. But, I know that FireTV itself, as in the separate devices hooked into the tv - do not have a mechanism to control headphone volume. I tried and nearly blew out my ears - it was so loud - and found at this time that is not supported. So, not sure about the tv.
