it says it works with both 3. and 3.1 butrequires laptop to have a tbt4 port--the 4 ports do work backward with the 3.

The PC USB-C port must be Thunderbolt 4 (TBT4) in order to be compatible with all devices. Data transfer speeds up to 40 GBps (Giga Bytes per second) depending on the device capabilities.
