“Are the handles metal or plastic? And are they set up in such a way that it would be easy to switch them out with a different handle (don't really want plastic handles).”

Plastic handles , fitted into mounts on door.. plastic not noticeable. Like the the little red fridge. Be surprised what all it will hold.
