Apples and oranges terms. If you have Amazon Prime upstairs that means that you have an internet connection. As long as you have some sort of wi-fi in the mix then the new TV will find it and operate as an independent Fire TV. It will find the wi-fi and ask a few questions. I was surprised when I bought an older Fire TV from the back of the shelf and it found the Wi-fi from across the house and connected (no cords or connectors. This TV just replaced an older Fire cube.

I had service reps come and hook up new tv, and antenna. They did an excellent job! I get more movies with the free apps than I ever got with cable. All tv channels, except the one food channel I love -chopped, guy’s grocery games, etc. I would probably have to pay for an app that has my food channel I prefer. Hope this helps.
