“How can you expand the memory on this tv? Or can you buy an external drive to expand the memory? I've tried a standard USB drive, but it doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated”

1. Add External Storage to Fire TV. 2. Plug a flash drive into the USB port on the back of your Fire TV. 3. It just takes a couple of seconds to format, and when it's done, head to Settings > About > Storage, and you'll see the extra space listed.
