I don't know about turning the smart features off, but I will tell you that you can connect an antenna and access the over the air content through the Fire TV interface. However, if you do not have an Amazon Priome subscription, I would recommend a TV without it. I think there are comparable Insignia Brand TVs that are not smart or use a different system.
