• I don't know about turning the smart features off, but I will tell you that you can connect an antenna and access the over the air content through the Fire TV interface. However, if you do not have an Amazon Priome subscription, I would recommend a TV without it. I think there are comparable Insignia Brand TVs that are not smart or use a different system.

• Yes. Personally, I will not pay for cable when 28 over the air channels are available for free. Attach an external antenna and the set will scan for available channels with a strong enough signal.
