• It should - I use it to connect my HP dock (DP) to my second LG monitor (HDMI). My other monitor is connected via the only HDMI port on the dock. I believe the HP dock is a G2.

• Yes, that’s the only way it works as this cable is directional. Monitor has to be HDMI and laptop/tower/docking station has to be DP.
