“I want to use this to connect my (old) laptop Acer UX305F to my Dell P2715Q Monitor to use as a 2nd monitor. The laptop has a mini HDMI port to plug into and then the regular HDMI end into the monitor. Will this work? Do I need to install drivers?”

The cable matches your ports and should theoretically work depending on the voltage running through it. Such a long cable could encounter electrical resistance, but as I use it on my mirorless camera leading to a external monitor, it works just fine. I’m pretty sure a computer power source has higher voltage than a camera battery. No drivers should be needed other than the graphics driver your computer most likely already has installed, wether you have an Nvidia, AMD or Intel graphics chip or card.
