Just unplug it and leave it alone. Pressing and holding the led button switches it into like a trickle charging mode which blinks the lights like you've seen. For very small devices that only charge with small amounts of power, sometimes batteries don't see the power trickling out and will power off. Holding the button keeps the battery active for 2 hours. So don't hold the button, just leave it alone, and the lights will turn off on their own.
