I had your same question and didn't find it here, but thankfully the PDF manual answers for us. It says: "An audio signal that matches the audio mode (2CH or 5.1CH) is also sent through the HDMI OUT port." Interestingly enough, it also mentions, that the 2ch or 5.1ch selected on the extractor becomes the ONLY audio sent through HDMI. So, if you wanted to have, say 7.1 audio going through HDMI to your TV/Receiver/SoundBar/etc and only extract 2ch-stereo for some other purpose, your HDMI would only send 2ch-stereo to your HDMI connected device, so keep that in mind.
