“I have a Roku TCL TV and a Receiver with no ARC. Seems like this should solve my problem with getting sound to play out of my receiver, but I've heard Roku TVs struggle in this regard (specifically volume control, etc). Has anybody had any luck w/ this?”

Do you have rca outputs or optical outputs on your roku, I would try them. I tried this unit with my sonos beam and a tv without ARC. Sonos has optical to hdmi adapter from optical output from tv to the hdmi input on the Beam. I wanted to get additional audio to sennheiser rf wireless headphones from the optical output on this insignia unit. When I hooked it up properly, Nothing had audio at all. Beam with optical out from tv to hdmi to hdmi in on Beam worked fine and continues to work fine. When I put this device in between , nothing worked. I ended up hooking Beam up as before and using rca outputs on tv to my headphones and all works. Device didn't work at all for me so I returned it. Wanted to hook up headphones to optical but tv only has one and I won't replace tv just for that. Good Luck. I had no luck with this unit but you might .
